3 Habits to Improve Your Tomorrow

For me January 1st is always a strange time of year.

In this strange way, it’s intimidating. I look back on the past year with some regret, thankfully, a good amount of satisfaction, and I look forward to the upcoming year with a lot of anticipation.

Knowing my goals, knowing the path I’ve chosen and knowing there is never an end to growth, I am excited.  Yet, even with the excitement, I am also a little intimidated.

Intimidated because my bar is high. Knowing that all the change I require will take a ton of work!

Four Ways to Sow Success

Here is a little known fact about me. You may not believe it. Trust me, I’m telling you the truth.

I love the Little House on the Prairie book series.

I do! Really!

My love affair with Little House started when I was a kid. I would lie on my couch and watch the TV show. Often.

I carried this love for the Little House TV series into college, no joke. My two college roommates were just as hooked. We’d rush back from class to catch the latest airing of the old series.

How to be a Good Gift Giver

Have you ever been stressed over buying a loved one a gift? Wondering: Will it fit? Will she like it? Is it the right color? Does she already have one? Is this too little? Too much?

For me, this used to happen every Christmas. I didn’t mean to get overwhelmed with the gift buying process. It’s not that my wife was super picky, needy or finicky. She didn’t have it all. For all intents and purposes, she should have been easy to buy for.

I think I know how I got this way, though.

Dealing with Apprehension

Can you remember the last time you held a great deal of apprehension? Maybe it was an uncomfortable moment, a confrontational conversation or a space or event that gave you an unsettling feeling of anxiety.

I’ll never forget the first time I went downhill skiing.  That hesitant, apprehensive feeling I had staring down at the humungous run I was supposed to ski down with little coaching or skill to aid me.  Ohhhh, man, was I nervous!

To eliminate that apprehension at the top of the hill, I had to face the situation and get comfortable fast.

How to Embrace Change

For a while now, my front door has been purple. Not just purple: the Joker Purple. I’m not kidding. It’s a long story about how it got to be that way but my wife never liked it. (I thought it was cool!)

Recently, it was finally time. She asked me: Please, please, please can we change the door color now? She has painted around the house but I’m the one who used to do it for a living. When it comes to the front door and oil paints, it’s definitely my job.

As much as my beloved spouse was excited about the change,

Don’t Get Overwhelmed: The Slow-But-Sure Approach to Personal Growth

With purposefulness, every step you take is taken with determination. Learn more

At leadership workshops, people ask me: These leadership tools are all great but I feel I am so busy and already doing so much – how can I begin to change and take on more in my life?

This is a really great question.

I am not going to sugarcoat the answer by saying personal development is easy or that it will come to you overnight. I’m sure you’d prefer the truth.  I tell them and you, the hardest person you will ever have to lead is yourself.  It’s not easy to do but,

7 Ways to Flush Out Negativity From Your Thinking

“Happiness begins where selfishness ends.”

This is a quote from one of my favorite leadership gurus, John Wooden.

Isn’t it the truth? Negativity is selfish in nature: it’s self-pitying, doubt-filled, and fear-driven. Unfortunately, it’s most often the choice we make.

There are plenty of times when I want to give in to exhaustion and negativity, toss in the towel and take the easy route! However, I also know that there’s no good in giving up or giving in.

In times of weakness, we must urgently ask: How are my thoughts and actions hurting those I love?

Think Ahead to Stay Ahead

How would you like to be able to get more done without working more?

This is called working smarter. I can teach you how.

I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t enjoy that!

If your life is like mine, it’s busier and more tangled than ever. So much to think about, to do and, at times, it’s overwhelming to say the least and harder than ever to get it all done! You have new demands, challenges and opportunities that seem to continually overflow your plate – and you begin to wonder: How am I going to get ahead?

Is your body keeping up with your rise towards success?

We all have that one thing in life that seems to get the short end of the stick.

We have 24 hours to fit in healthy choices every day. Inevitably, doesn’t at least one thing seem to be put on the backburner?

I’m going to get personal here. For me, that one thing is my physical well-being. I really have to work hard at it. It seems like it is always the one thing that gets pushed aside for everything else. I also know it’s that one thing that I can’t ignore.

Can you relate?
